Essential Things To Know About Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve and causes loss of vision with time. The optic nerve is responsible for carrying the visual sensations to our brain. The optic nerve gets damaged due to the increased pressure within the eye. This increased pressure is known as intraocular pressure. If this intraocular pressure keeps increasing, without proper and effective glaucoma treatment, it can result in the permanent loss of vision.
Most of the time, people who are affected with glaucoma do not face any early symptoms or any pain in the eyes. In order to diagnose it and getting treated before the long-term loss of vision happens, going for a regular eye checkup is advisable. Usually, glaucoma is such an eye disease that is likely to get inherited. Moreover, it may not get discovered until later in the life. Hence, if your family has a history of this eye disease and if your age is over 40 years, it is advisable to go for a complete eye check up from the specialists. Even if you suffer from diabetes, you should consider a full eye check up on a regular time interval.
One of the two types of glaucoma ...
... is Open-angle glaucoma or wide-angle glaucoma. In this type of glaucoma, the drain structure of the eye, which is known as trabecular meshwork seems to appear absolutely normal. However, the flow of the fluid doesn’t seem normal though. This type of glaucoma is very common and this glaucoma treatment in India offers improvement in the visual acuity.
The second type of glaucoma is Angle-closure glaucoma or narrow-angle glaucoma. In this type of glaucoma, the angle between the cornea and the iris is too narrow that it causes visual complications. This type of glaucoma is related to other eye related diseases such as cataracts and farsightedness. However, effective glaucoma treatment for this type is also possible if it gets diagnosed at the proper time.
Glaucoma treatment in India is possible in both ways – with or without eye surgery. If you use eye drops to treat your affected eyes, you may become exposed to some side effects like redness, allergies, blurred vision, stinging, irritated eyes etc. Even some of the glaucoma drugs may affect the lungs and the heart. Consult with your eye specialist regarding any of the side effects that you are having.
To treat glaucoma affected eyes, eye specialists may suggest you for Microsurgery or Laser surgery as well. Well, till now there is no effective way to prevent glaucoma but, if it is diagnosed at the earlier stage, it can be controlled with proper medication and surgery. Regarding the glaucoma treatment, consult with your doctor whether medication or surgery would be the best option for you.
