You want to enter a medical coding career alright, but you're not sure which cap you want to don - that of a coder, biller, or a transcriptionist. All three are fast growing careers with ample of opportunities. But how do you know which one is for you since all the three careers have a lot in common? Read on and find out:

First see what their responsibilities are. All the three of the careers work in health care, but they train eyes on different things. While medical coders and transcriptionists work closest with the health care facility, billers work more closely with patients and insurance companies. Coders and transcriptionists deal with confidential papers that most places won't let it go outside their door.

When you compare the pay package, careers in medical coding pay well, depending on your training and skill. Coders and transcriptionists walk home with a higher hourly rate. But although billers may take home less salary, they have higher chance of starting a medical billing business from home.

Both ...
... coders and billers work with computers regularly, but there are other skills they must possess. Moreover, coders, billers, and transcriptionists have to be careful with their work or else they could end up paying fines. You need to find out how much reference each career requires and decide what you're most comfortable with.

But whichever career you opt for, one thing is for sure that you need a certification to make a mark. So if you have decided to wear the coder's shoes, you will need to get yourself a medical coding certification, which will prove vital for your career.
