Andy Murray to carry the flag for Great Britain at the opening ceremony on Friday, the Rio 2016.

He was named player aged 29 years before the likes of boxer Nicola Adams and kayaking Katherine Grainger.

Murray, who inspired Great Britain Davis Cup in November, is the first tennis player to fill that role.

“But the leadership of Team GB have an incredible honor, which is the biggest in the sport,” he said.

As well as the singles gold, as the Scot won the doubles silver along with Laura Robson in the London Games in 2012.

“Obviously I have great memories from London and I’m 100% focused on winning here in Rio,” said Murray.

“Being aware of the privilege holder moment I will remember for the rest of my life, and will certainly be one of the highlights of my career.”

Murray, seeded second in both the men’s singles and doubles championships, which as a team with his brother Jimmy.

And seeded teammate and fellow Briton Johanna Konta number 10 in the women’s event.
