What is the one most fundamental rule for a healthy diet? Some would allege it's the Five a Day rule. Which is a recommendation by the government that the people eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. This sounds reasonable enough, but just about everyone has trouble following this rule!

To maintain yourself in this routine think of all the great nutritious values these fruits and veggies hold and how it is helping your body. Think of how they taste great, they have fewer calories than many other items, and they're full of vitamins and minerals as well. They seem to be so perfect for something to snack on and they combine great with meals.

For the most part, it's also very easy to prepare fruits and vegetables even when you're busy. Often they don't need any preparation but can be ready with a quick wash.

So when they say Five a Day, how much is that? It may mean two cups of fruit and two and a half cups of vegetables every day, based on the average dietary needs. This really isn't difficult to do but you should keep it in mind when grocery shopping, planning out your meals, cooking, and ...
... so on.

A good little cheat you can try to have at least one serving every day is to start your day with a serving of juice. There is a variety of juices to choose from, orange, apple, pineapple, grape fruit, and so on.

Fruits and Veggies would make great garnishes for meals. You can follow this by cutting slices of fruits in your cereal every morning. They are perfect for a snack to pack up and carry in your back pack for school or to work. If you have them available you're more likely to eat them!

Often a crucial problem with eating healthy is that a person gets bored with the same items day after day, and a good mixture of options can help with this. You can try new varieties of fruits and vegetables to help as well. Which fruits have you not tried yet? If you try them you may find they alleviate boredom since they're something new and different.

And you can always combine the colors and shapes of fruits to make the meals as attractive as possible. Combinations such as grapes with peppers or pineapples are good.

It is necessary to have a great deal of fruits and veggies for the Five a Day plan to be productive. So think of how you can do this every day. What about making up a homemade pizza with vegetable toppings? Many other foods you can eat would be a vegetable wrap sandwich, vegetable soup, and various pasta options as well.

Help is there when you believe that preparing the fruits and veggies properly is too time consuming. Many salad kits are sold today with all the ingredients you need. All you have to purchase is some low fat salad dressing and you can have salad at a moment's notice with no preparation.

Many restaurants and fast food place have diet or healthy sections in a menu. Or you can discover a supermarket with a salad bar in the produce section so that you can quickly get your own lunch when you're on the go.

Consuming the fruits and vegetables as your daily snacks is a great way to accomplish your Five servings a Day rule. Apples, bananas, pears, or any other fruits are easy to get. All the fruits and veggies are delicious and have many important nutrients. And the natural fructose in these items are nothing like the sugar you'll find many junk food options.

Another great way to keep up with the Five a Day rule is too add as many vegetables as you can in your salad. Try red or green peppers, chopped up broccoli, carrots, cucumber slices, and things like these for tossed salads. You can also try different fruits such as pineapples, apple chunks, orange slices, and others for your salad as well.

It's also healthy to try adding fresh fruits to other food choices. When eating your usual dieting food such as yogurt and cottage cheese, add some apples, berries, or bananas in them, that will help you reach the Five a Day goal.
