It is a fact that in the course of looking too much into detail –whether small or big or significant or not –too many managers lose sight of the long term strategy for the organization. It is no doubt important to know and remember and get into detail; yet, this should not come in the way of strategic thinking, which is what organizations need more than details.
So, the manager’s challenge is to get into details, but to such an extent and in a way that she should not be oblivious to the strategic goal of the organization. While getting into detail is tactical in nature, meaning it serves a short term goal or objective; strategy-oriented thinking is the foundation for organizational growth. Strategic thinkers move out into wider zones and do not stay in the tactical or managerial mold for long.
