If you're looking to start playing golf you should know first of all that chances are this isn't something you're going to ever stop. Golf is incredibly addictive and can eat up years of your life as you try to improve your handicap, it is in fact as much of a life commitment as marriage.

Once you are ready for this commitment, you need to make sure that you're as kitted out as you can be. If golf is to become the life long obsession that it is for so many other people (and if you're going to get good at it rather than wasting the obsession on something you can't really do), then you'll need to have some good equipment to play with. Kitting yourself out at the start of your burgeoning passion will help you get the most enjoyment out of the game and see that you don't fall short on certain shots.

For this reason you may want to head over to an online golf store to look at the equipment on sale. You'll be greeted by a large selection however so it can help to have an idea of what kinds of things you're looking for. The first thing you'll need of course are golf balls. You'll need several as you're bound to get them ...
... lost in foliage and ponds, though most golf courses will sell them somewhere on the premises in worst case scenarios. These are weighted and dimpled to allow them to travel the maximum distance.

Now you'll want a set of golf clubs. These come in different shapes and sizes depending on the playing fields and can be used depending on where the ball lies in relation to the hole. For example, should you accidentally hit your ball into the sand, you can use a sand wedge to chip it safely out and back onto the green. Of course then the more varied your set of clubs the more likely you are to have just the right club for the occasion.

The two main clubs you'll need however are the driver and the putter. The driver is the club you'll use for ‘driving' or teeing off, when you hit the ball initially with the aim of covering as much ground between yourself and the hole as possible. These will be numbered depending on how far they'll send the ball and should also be rated for other elements such as their launch angle. Putters meanwhile are used to tap the ball the final distance into the hole and are far lighter to allow for greater accuracy. Other clubs you will need to consider are irons, woods and hybrids.

All these clubs will then need to be carried around the course with you, and for this purpose you will obviously need a comfortable bag that you can carry with you and set down. Make sure you leave space for your collection to grow. Finally you will need golf shoes for yourself. These should come with spikes or cleets on the sole that will grip to the ground as you walk and hit, giving you extra stability for big swings.

With the always improving technology in golf equipment, a golf store will often have clearance lines. Particularly when it comes to golf clubs, golf drivers, golf balls and many other lines too.
