India is a country where there is extreme wealth existing alongside grinding poverty. Though the country has emerged as one of the top economies in the world, it has failed to reduce poverty. A vast section of the population in big cities like Mumbai resides in slums. The people living in these areas do not have basic amenities of life. With no stable source of income to support themselves, they often fail to make ends meet. Malnourishment has been a long standing problem, which the government has failed to resolve. India still has one of the largest rates of malnourishment in the world. If you are pained by their suffering, then there are some ways through which you can feed the poor. Some of them are mentioned below :-

Donate food to NGOs to feed the poor in Mumbai

NGOs that are based in Mumbai and its surrounding areas accept donations in the form of food from individuals. If you are not in a position to make donations in the form of money, then you can donate food. NGOs do offer free meals to people from the poorest sections of the population. By donating food items to them, you can ensure that they get sufficient ...
... meals on a daily basis. This will ensure that they get adequate nutrition essential for good health.

But to be sure that the food items that you donate reach the poor, check the credentials of the NGO. You need to go for those NGOs whose community development programs have been successful in improving the socio-economic conditions of the poor. Quite a few of these NGOs feed the poor in Navi Mumbai and other parts of the city.

Volunteer with any NGO

Rather than making donations in the form of food, you can consider volunteering with an NGO. This will help in playing a more active role in bringing a positive change in their lives. NGOs do accept people who are willing to work as volunteers with them. The work that you will need to do on a day to day basis will be diverse. Apart from working in the community kitchen, you may also have to teach street children. While working among these people, you will get a good idea of the various problems they deal with regularly. You can play an active role in improving the sanitation facilities within the slums also.

NGOs that handle community development programs also offer skills-based vocational training to the urban poor. Thus, the people living in the poorest quarters of Mumbai will be able to learn carpentry, handicraft making etc. They will thus have a stable source of income to bank upon. Their earnings will increase and their standards of living will also go up. As a volunteer, you can offer them any type of skill based training you are good at. For example, if you know handicraft making, then you can give them live demonstrations of making handicrafts.
