Prostate Gland Function, Problems And Diet
The prostate gland is a part of male reproductive system. It surrounds the male urethra, which is a tube and gives a passage to the flow of urine from the bladder up to the outside of the body. The main function of this male reproductive gland is to secrete a fluid, which makes up the liquid part of the semen. This fluid nourishes and protects semen, when it is transported into the women vagina through intercourse. It also increases the volume of the semen.
During the spasmodic contractions or convulsion at the moment of intercourse, this gland is able to squeeze and force the secretions it contains into the urethra. The ducts in which these secretions are formed open-close together at the same place in the urethral wall where the two seminal ducts also join the urethra together secretion forms a large proportion of the ejaculate or discharge. Their alkalinity preserves the sperms and stimulates their mobility.
The spermatic cord is about 45 cm in length. This length makes it an effective suction pump for the testicular products. This length also makes it able to contain a large amount of such secretions, so that ...
... throughout it may serve as a reservoir, as well as a conduit or duct. In the reservoir there are compartments in which the seminal fluid from the epididymis collects. Main storage of the semen takes are overfull the vesicles act as safety valves and extra containers. The vesicular product is a though, yellowish and sticky substance which gets mixed up in the seminal fluid.
Some of the common diseases of the prostate glands are prostatitis, prostate cancer, benign enlargement of the prostate, and retention of urine. In prostatitis, there is an inflammation of the prostate gland due to bacterial infection. Benign enlargement of the prostate is a non cancerous tumor of the prostate generally seen after the age of 50. Prostate cancer is one of the most common causes of death in males. In retention of urine, the urethra is completely compressed and there is retention of the urine.
Healthy diet and a regular exercise can help you in preventing prostate problems and keep your prostate gland in good health. In prostate gland problems, the patient is advised to consume foods that are rich in zinc. Zinc is present in flaxseed oil, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, eggs, meat and seafood. He should avoid eating sour and fried foods. Clarified butter (ghee made from cow milk), ginger, garlic and asafoetida are the foods that are beneficial in prostate problems. The patient should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
Alternate cold and hot hip baths for 10 minutes a day is helpful in prostate problems. A prostate massage is also beneficial in maintaining a healthy prostate or treating a swollen and painful prostate gland.
