The Misconceptions Of An Add Child

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) popularly known as ADD is a pressing concern for parents all over the world. It's normal for parents to be concerned because about 3%-5% of children worldwide is manifesting or showing the symptoms of being an ADD child before they are seven years old. As a parent, we always want the best for our child and help them to be able to achieve their full potential throughout the whole existence of our life. And its part of our responsibility to assist them in the best way we can even if they are diagnosed as an ADD child.
The greatest misconception regarding the condition ADD is that the child who had been diagnosed with such condition is unintelligent. This is a far cry from the truth that an ADD child is surprisingly above average. What makes them the way they are is the inability to express their creative juices. Children's with ADHD are very creative and have a high imagination as compared to children of their same age. Their brain process differently from others and it may appear that they have a learning disability. In reality however, they only have a learning disability ...
... when it comes to traditional or standard settings but put them on a highly creative environment and for sure their hidden geniuses will shine.
Another misconception towards an ADD child is that the condition is hereditary. This again is not true, although genetic can be a contributing factor, it is not the entire reason for having ADHD. Other contributing factors are the social and physical environment as well as nutritional diet. In reality, the specific cause for ADHD is not known. Perhaps this may be the reason why up to now, the condition is not curable. That again is another misconception, that the condition is curable. The negative characteristics of ADD can be treated but not the condition itself. The purpose of treatment of the negative traits in ADHD is for the child to be able to function at full capacity. If somehow, our child is diagnosed with such condition, it is all up to us to help our child overcome these traits all at the same time nurture their creative minds.
If your child is manifesting the symptoms of ADHD, it is best that you seek the help of professionals like doctors and child psychologist or psychiatrist. It is never safe to assume that a child is suffering from such condition while in fact the reasons why they are manifesting the symptoms are very much different. Your child can also have the same manifestations with ADHD if undergoing through a hard transition like death in the family or divorce. Any sudden change and undetected seizures can also portray such symptoms. The child can also be showing signs of ADD if faced with learning disability, anxiety, depression, insufficient poor quality sleep or may have an ear infection that causes hearing problems. See, not all the time ADD is the culprit.
Once we put these misconceptions aside, we can now effectively deal with an ADD child and help them be the best that they can be.
