Italians are well known for having some of the best wine selections in the world. However, because Italy is known for having such good wine, it can be difficult knowing how to pick out Italian wines. In this article, we will be going over some of the key tips that you should utilize if you want to select the best overall wines from Italy.
Selecting The Best Wines From Italy:
1. Look For Wine From Popular Regions
The first key thing that you are going to want to do is be sure that you look for wines that are from popular regions in Italy. For example, you will want to look for red wines in the Tuscany region as they are known for having some of the best red wine in the world that are made with Sangiovese grapes.
2. Look For Wines From Veneto
Veneto is well known for producing some of the best wines in the country of Italy. This is home to Venice in Northern Italy so you should be able to find plenty of different wines from this region. You should be able to find a lot of different kinds of wines from white wines that include Prosecco and Soave and even light red wines as well.
3. Try ...
... A Super Tuscan
These are well known for being some of Italy's best wines in the entire country. Winemakers developed these wines in the 1970's in Tuscany, Italy. These wines are actually blends of French grapes and Sangiovese grapes. They are extremely unique and they make for some of the best wines that you should look for.
4. Know Wine Classifications
Another key tip that you are going to want to utilize is, knowing the Italian Government's wine classification regulations. By knowing these, you are going to be better able to understand what you can expect from a bottle of wine. For example, a wine that is labeled DOCG is a wine that meets the strictest regulations. Whereas, wine that is labeled with DOC is a wine that meets the second strictest classification.
A wine that is labeled with IGT is a wine that is classified to be an excellent value for the amount of money being charged. Lastly, a VDT label classifies that the wine is a table wine and this is the lowest form of classification in the system. This will allow you to really recognize what you are getting when you purchase your Italian wines.
There is plenty to know and understand about Italian wines before you actually invest in them. You want to make sure that you are focusing on finding the top wines with the best overall quality. The best way to do this is by carefully picking out your wines based on region and classification. Always look at the classification system before purchasing because it will really help you understand what you are buying before you make your purchase decision.
