Increasing Security In Your Home

Increasing security in your home is important for many reasons, protecting both your belongings and your family (not to mention yourself) from intruders and even helping to lower your home and contents insurance (and preventing you from having to make claims on it). As such there are a large variety of different security systems you can install in your home that will help protect you from people breaking in.
Of course the most basic and crucial form of home security is the front door lock and the locks on the doors inside. Most front doors now utilise a cylinder lock which is not only very difficult to bypass (and has thousands of variations), but is also very simple for locksmiths to replace or change. This can be useful in cases where your home has been broken into before, where you've lost your keys along with some personal information or where someone untrustworthy has a copy.
Most doors inside the home meanwhile use lever locks. These are just as safe in terms of the number of available pin combinations but are slightly less bulky to install so are more suited to wooden doors. While not all houses have locks ...
... inside their home this can be a good idea as a way to prevent them from getting to the rooms with the most valuable items and can act as a second line of defence if situated near the front or back door. Finally in terms of locks it can be a good idea to invest in a gate with a padlock (as opposed to a gate key which is a fairly useless form of security). These will be fairly easy for potential intruders to scale/open, but may be enough to deter them and cause them to move on to easier targets.
On top of locks, getting an alarm fitted is also a clever move. This way should one of the doors or windows be opened without a key, the alarm will sound. This can be enough on its own to scare away intruders, and can also alert others in the area to the situation in the hope that a neighbour might come round to check on your property. Some alarms can also be fitted with a system that informs local emergency services, or a members of a team that you pay a little extra to come and check your property. If you want to take this kind of surveillance one further however, there are now also various gadgets and appliances that allow you to view your home remotely via the internet using webcams. This way you can check on the status of your home from anywhere in the world and some even come mounted onto robots or wheels to allow you to check multiple rooms.
While an alarm or webcam system will work well for while you're away from your home, while you're inside you might want to be able to check who's outside without leaving your home. For this reason a buzzer and speakerphone system can be a good way to check on your guests before letting them in. Even better is a video camera which will allow you to check outside your home without having to alert those outside that you are outside/awake.
