Usually in homes with water level sensors in septic tank systems the maintenance of the septic tank is neglected. It is the duty of the house owner to keep regular maintenance of the septic tank. To replace or change your septic tank can be quite a major home improvement project, so to keep it in a good working condition is to your advantage. A well maintained septic tank system is also a necessary if you are planning to resale your house. Here are the basics of septic tank system and its maintenance.

A normal septic tank system has four major parts

1. Pipe
2. The septic tank itself
3. Drain field
4. Soil around your yard and the drain field.

There is nothing to worry about the contamination of soil. Microbes in the soil however will breakdown and digests most of the contaminated miscreants before they reach any water supply.

The septic tank design ...
... is such that the pipe from your home carries all of the waste water from your home out to the septic tank. The septic tank system is watertight that is made from various materials and is buried in your yard. Some of the newer septic tanks have risers that are leveled with the ground and have covers over them. These risers make inspecting and pumping very convenient.

One of the main reasons to get septic tank back up is that septic tank system fails even with the fluff that is produced by washing machines. The fluff clogs the soil in the drain fields. The fluff produced by a normal washing machine in a year is so much that it is enough to cover your living room as a carpet. To prevent fluff entering into the septic tank one can use an inline filter that attaches with your washing machine discharge pipe or can go for a septic tank filter as both will solve the required deed.
