Overview Of Firewire Cable
Firewire is the brand name of Apple for IEEE 1394 high speed cable. The Firewire cable was created with the intention of fast transfer of video from digital camcorders and external hard drives. The Firewire has replaced traditional USB when it was first created as a preferred method for transferring the data, offering significantly higher data transfer rates than USB. Within a short period of time, Firewire became a standard in many computers and digital camcorders.
The Firewire cables are referred to as IEEE 1394 cables and as i-Link cables. These names refer to the same cable under different branding. IEEE 1394 is the actual name of the cable whereas, Firewire is the name given by Apple and i-Link is given by Sony.
There are two types of Firewire cables found in the market - Firewire 400 and Firewire 800. The 400 cables is capable of transferring the data at the rate of 400 mbps whereas, the 800 cable can transfer the data at the rate of 800 mbps which is much faster. Thus, Firewire 800 cables have replaced Firewire 400 in the market.
Firewire cables are used to transfer large amount of data at very high ...
... speed. These cables are traditionally used with the digital camcorders in order to transfer video to the computers and are also used to transfer the data to and from the external hard drives.
Nowadays, Firewire is slowly getting out dated from the marketplace and is being replaced by faster USB 2.0 cables. Apple has not included Firewire as a standard port on the laptop or the computer so; many digital camcorders have started using USB 2.0 for data transfer.
