The first portable elevator was patented around 1867. That was build of wood, included levers, and a platform with a hoist. Sadly, the inventor of this great innovation could not share this idea of his to the manufacturers and the industrial leaders and thus, his design was not used up till forty years later; and at that time it was made up of steel and iron castings with the original design and its principle being the same.

By 1887, initial efforts were created to combine horizontal and vertical motion. One smart manufactured came with this idea of using ball bearings and at the wheels of the trucks this idea was promoted using this innovation claiming that it could carry lots more weight capacity as compared to the customised trucks.

It was the mid of the nineteenth century and the onset of twentieth century that the developments and advancements led to the popularity of what we call today as the Moffett mounty. World War 1 saw the extensive use and popularity of various types of material handling equipments which was also because of the labour shortage during that era. Ever since then, the continued and expanded ...
... use of the forklifts at Edinburgh prolonged till late 1920s and 1930s. During the days when the power was introduced and the first electric power forklifts were created, apart from the standardised pallets, the forklifts started gaining too much of popularity and fame.

The initial ones were nothing more than some modified hand trucks. During those times, four separate legs gave support to the flat wooden platforms and all the legs were supposed to be kept into the exact position under the platform every time it was set. Gradually, the manufacturers thought of joining two of the legs; this led to handling of only three pieces rather than five. During the early days, trucks came in real huge sizes.

After that, just like the World War 1, even the Second World War made extensive of the heavy lifting equipments. As the war came to an end, more sophisticated and enhanced methods were devised for storing the products and raw materials. More forklifts in Aberdeen were required in the warehouses, and these ones were made taller than the previous ones so as to increase the working proficiency of the existing forklifts.

By the year of 1950s and 1960s, the operator safety rules and concerns became very important because of the increasing height of the vehicles and their capacities. Several safety features like the operator cages, back rests, began getting added to the trucks during these times. By 1990s, the exhaust emissions in the forklifts started getting importance and these regulations started becoming implemented for many manufacturers across the globe.

With the recent advancements in cherry picker of Glasgow being, the introduction of AC Power combined with fuel cell technology. From the early 1930s to present, the forklifts have seen tremendous changes and developments which are based on new principles and better applications of technology that save time and labour.
