All animal lovers can remember the first time they fall in love with animals, the joy and excitement of owning your own pet, teaching him/her tricks, potty training them and not forgetting the anger when they chew your new shoes but you just forget about is when they give that look that looks like they are so sorry, and your heart just melts with forgiveness.

The day you come home to find them laying on the end of your bed or on the porch with what it seems like tears in their eyes and you can't even get your daily welcome home greeting and you just know something has to be wrong. You quickly put him/her in your car and rush to your vet who has to run some test on him/her. You wait in agony for the results and they come back and your heart breaks when you find out it is diabetes.

To you who are wondering if you're animals could have diabetes this is a few checks you can do:
Signs to watch out for:

Frequently urination
High level of thirst (drinking much more water)
Affect the eye and could damage the lens
Loosing body muscle (Weakness)
Vomiting
Trouble in ...
... breathing

So what can you do about it? Don't give up animal diabetes just like diabetes in humans can be controlled, I got a few tips to help you along.

Tip number 1- Your pet being healthy and remaining healthy depends on the treatment they receive from you the owner, your family and the veterinarian.

Tip number 2- Animals with diabetes are more susceptible to infections. Always keep them clean, free from ticks and fleas. Scratching is bad for them so preventative is better than cure.

Tip number 3- Some animals with diabetes are underweight. It recommended that you monitor that your pet is eating, completing their meals, and that you are giving them a healthy diet.

Tip number 4- They need daily exercise for example a run in the yard or a walk will do them well

Tip number 5- You need to be able to test their blood glucose levels. This is usually done by dipping a glucose test strip into the urine of the animal suffering with diabetes.

Tip number 6- Animals with diabetes need to receive insulin, due to very little been created in the pancreas. The insulin needs to be administered through injections to decrease and stabilize blood glucose levels.

Tip number 7- it is discouraged to breed a diabetic animal, due to diabetes been able to be passed on through genes and the risk of the animal aborting.

Test on animals with diabetes have brought back positive feed back and people are finding remedies almost every day to fight diabetes both in humans and in animals, because they know that animals are just as important to safe.

Some results that were found:
1. When Aloe Vera gel was administered in animals with diabetes their blood sugar level was lowered.
2. The process used to formulate the cranberry extract eliminates unwanted sugars and oxalic acid resulting in a product that meets the needs of animals with diabetes mellitus.
3. When laboratory animals with diabetes were given turmeric, their blood sugar levels dropped, as did their cholesterol levels.
4. Results of limited studies in animals with diabetes show that ginger may reduce blood levels of sugar and cholesterol, while also lowering blood pressure.

So with all the test and studies been done in labs all around the world I am sure that one day there will be a vaccine against diabetes, but please take care of your pets health and remember that you mean just as much to them or even more, as they mean to you.
