The shaker style kitchen originated from the earlier 17th century after a popular religious group known as the “Shakers”. This religious group was known for the unique way of religious worshipping that involved the rituals of “shaking”. This kitchen style developed an authentic and simplistic design for the functionality of the kitchen. In this article, we give you information on how to give your shaker kitchen a perfect retro look.

Color:
The retro period was filled with bright eye catching colors and different patterns and textures. You can incorporate this idea easily with the shaker kitchen style, especially if you have shaker cream and white kitchens. Contrasting bright colors like red, black, blue and green are the best color choices that can be incorporated in the shaker cream kitchen. You can play around with geometric patterns and textures for the perfect combinations that will suit your needs. The high gloss finish is the perfect effect for the retro look. Not only does it make it a stylish, but also a lively feel.

Furniture and Cabinets:
Most of the furniture in the shaker kitchens ...
... follows a simplistic design and functionality. The furniture like the dining table was either square, with a set of 4 simplistic chairs. To give it a more retro look, you can incorporate retro furniture like bar stools or even revolving chairs matching the color schemes. The high raised back chairs were a common sight, in the retro era which can be used in your kitchen.

You can also have this furniture in a contrasting color, especially with the shaker cream kitchens. Colors like red, black and dark brown work best with the shaker cream and white kitchens. The shaker cabinets, especially the shaker cream kitchen cabinets incorporated a light airy feeling. For a more retro effect, the doors can be replaces with high gloss with the inner panels as contrasting colors.

Lighting:
No kitchen can survive without lighting. With shaker cream and white kitchens, the lighting is normally used to give a light and warm effect. You can replace the lighting in the typical shaker cream kitchen with delicate lampshades of a contrasting color. Floor stand lamp shades from the retro area is one suggestion for the typical retro look. Colors like pop orange, blue, green and yellow are the best colors for the lampshades.

Accessories:
Various other accessories like wooden frames pictures, large funky magnets on the fridge and the typical lace curtains can be added as extra accessories to your Shaker cream and white kitchens. Ensure that these elements are a contrast to your color theme of your kitchen. Colors like blue, marine, red and orange are some of the choices for a shaker cream kitchen
