What Is Spinal Structural Shift?
The most common spinal structural shift is called Anterior Head Syndrome or A.H.S. for short. If you look at a person from the side and observe the head position what you should see is an alignment of the ear opening directly over the shoulders. In simpler terms, the head has to be balanced over the shoulders. Typically the normal range for the head is to be anterior to the center of the shoulders less than one inch. One of the indicators for A.H.S. is if the head has translated or moved forward from the shoulders more than 1 inch. This confirms the presence of A.H.S. There are additional indicators of A.H.S like muscular tension or spasm, "Granny Hump" or dowagers hump, nerve impingement, compressed and degenerated disc, and damaged and degenerated vertebra. If you have any one of the five indicators of A.H.S. then a professional consultation should be sought. The idea is, if you have A.H.S. this is a primary structural shift of the spine and it can, and often does, cause secondary conditions or symptoms.
What Are Secondary Conditions? Obviously, Secondary Conditions are a result of a Primary Condition; ...
... for example, Anterior Head Syndrome or (A.H.S.). Most patients seek to have the secondary condition addressed because they simply have never been exposed to what causes the secondary condition. Since the primary condition is never fully addressed continued symptoms evolve as the structure degenerates and fails.
The secondary condition is easy to understand with an analogy. Think of a fireman running into a house filled with smoke and flames with smoke alarm sounding off to alert everyone of a problem. Imagine the fireman whacking the alarm with his ax to silence the alarm. The fireman exits the house and he high fives his fellow fire fighters while ignoring the smoke and flames. Doesn’t it make more sense to put out the fire?
Now A.H.S. is not the ONLY cause of these Secondary Conditions. Yet, if you have a structural problem, these can be a result of Anterior Head Syndrome. Here is a brief list of Secondary Conditions that can be a result of a Primary Structural problem, such as A.H.S.: Arm Pain The most common spinal structural shift is called Anterior Head Syndrome or A.H.S. for short.
