Athletes Beware: Foot Overpronation And Arch Pain Cannot Be Ignored

Arch pain and over-pronation can cause issues for people in every stage of life and can even affect an athlete's performance during every type of activity. For many people who experience pain like this, they may not be aware of the 3 common triggers. Most of the causes are avoidable, but several can be inherited. According to the Cleveland Clinic, three of the avoidable causes for arch pain include high heel shoes, tightly-fitting footwear, and deficient arch support. These ill-decided actions can all bring on painful foot problems like bunions, hammertoes, and plantar fasciitis. The Mayo Clinic cites that 2 of the genetic foot conditions that can bring on over-pronation and arch pain include fallen arches or arches that are too high. Below are some common foot procedures that fix these problems and how each of them can be helped.
Arch support Can Prevent a Host of Serious Foot Problems
Some of the inherited foot problems include either fallen arches or excessively high arches. Arch malformations such as these affect normal and active people alike. The result of a fallen arch can be arch pain and over-pronation ...
... because this flattened part of the foot is not functioning as it should. When this structure is not formed properly, overpronation occurs which can bring on a heel spur, a bony protuberance in the heel. Surgery is sometimes necessary to remove the bonespur and relieve the dicomfort. The specialist will use a bone saw to cut away the superfluous bone which will eliminate the irritation, tearing, and swelling it had been causing. The best alternative for treating both types of arch disorders so heel spurs can be prevented is by providing the foot with normal arch support through athletic insoles.
Bunions Aren't Always Hereditary
Having a bunion removed, or a bunionectomy, is the process whereby the bump of bone just below the big toe is severed to attain a more conventional foot form and width. In the most serious cases where the big toe has begun to turn under the other toes, the foot doctor cuts a triangle-shaped wedge out of the bone in the big toe to reset it to its proper angle. A tiny screw is used to fasten the two bone portions together. After about half a year, the screw is usually removed. Despite the fact that this disorder can happen because of pointed shoes, some bunion occurrences are hereditary. Surgeons confer that shoes with little space force the toes into an unnatural position can bring on bunions.
Overview of Hammertoe Treatment and Prevention
Hammertoes can be brought on by pointy shoes or footwear that is snug. This disorder can affect athletes that wear ill-fitting shoes during activity as well. Hammertoes are, sadly, difficult to treat without a corrective operation. First, a foot doctor can try to straighten the affected toe to try force it into a more natural placement. In order for this method to work, wider shoes must be worn form that point on. Hammertoes can recur if ill-fitting shoes are worn again. If splinting the toe is unsuccessful, surgery is the lone alternative. The afflicted toe must have a part of the bone surgically removed to minimize its twist. The recovery period is very important, as patients who do not rest and elevate their feet as suggested will fail to mend correctly. The way to prevent this condition is to wear well-fitted shoes.
Regardless of types of activities, age, or inherited traits, foot conditions can occur in a fair number of persons. Though foot procedures can surgically repair these conditions, most of the time they are preventable through proper shoes and proper arch support
Footminders orthotic insoles were developed by a group of podiatrists resulting from years of research to correct posture and body biomechanics by providing longitudinal and metatarsal support. They greatly reduce over- pronation often caused by flat feet, while providing improved walking comfort.
