The island ranges from urban neighborhoods, to all varieties of suburbia, to spacious rural land. Full of thriving beach towns, family oriented communities, and several major colleges, all with a short commute to the city, many of the homes for sale in Suffolk County, NY would make a wonderful place to live.

Further east than New York City and Nassau County, Suffolk county offers a greater variety of neighborhood options. The entire south shore is covered in long, white beaches with vibrant beach communities. There are many famous seafood restaurants, public beaches, and even state parks to explore during the warm summer months. The north shore of the island is elevated above the water, providing beautiful views of the Long Island Sound and the Connecticut shore line in the distance. Further out east along the north shore are Long Island's famous vineyards, always open for tours, tastings, and shopping. Villages in Suffolk County range from rural villages such as Quogue, to the more urban focal points such as Huntington, full of downtown shopping centers with a thriving night life. From anywhere on the island, the Long Island Rail Road is never far away. This MTA operated train service is a great means of public transportation to travel anywhere east or west on the island, or for regular connection to New York City via a one to two hour train ride. The towns in Suffolk County operate public busses for more local transportation, but the sprawling infrastructure of the island favors personal automobiles as its means of transportation. The winding parkways of the county make for pleasant drives through the suburban and more rural parts of the island, and the Long Island Expressway is a quick way to travel large distances east or west across the island.

Many of the homes on the island are fairly large and old pieces of property, but nearly all of them have been renovated or maintained to keep up with the times. Few areas in Suffolk have experienced any significant vacancies, so many of the homes have been taken care of and are ready for new buyers.
