Show physical affection for your child. Human beings naturally crave touch. Whether it's a hug or a kiss or just a simple pat on the head, touch can be a great way to connect with and show affection for your child. Touch is especially important when they're sick or feeling sad, since it will comfort them.

Tell your friends and family that you plan to breastfeed and educate them as to why. Let them know that you will have moments of stress and doubt and that they should help remind you of why you are doing this. If you provide family and friends a list of reasons why they will be much more likely to encourage and support you when things get hard.

Learn the signs of a baby on a nursing strike. Many parents experience a nursing strike and take that to mean that the baby is ready to wean. Actually babies go through periods where they are just less interested in breastfeeding in general. Babies do this generally when they are going through large developmental leaps. Just keep offering and they will come back to normal feeding rhythms.

Look into slings and baby carriers designed for twins. They do exist, and they ...
... are fabulous. There is a learning curve for getting two babies into a carrier, but the benefits to mom and baby are enormous. Wearing your babies will allow you to get things done with your hands free, and the twins get the emotional connection and intellectual stimulation from being right with you.

For young children, don't underestimate the power of naps. They need more sleep than an older kid. Children can usually stop napping around five or six years old. Young toddlers should be taking up to two naps a day, and children 1.5 and older should still be taking one nap per day.

One of the absolute best ways to establish a healthy relationship with your child is by playing with them. You will learn so much about your child just by taking the time to sit on the floor and play a simple game. You will have fun and so will your child as you build a great relationship.

Give your children praise for the things they do well. It is natural to notice negative behaviors instead of positive ones. However, if a child does not feel like they are receiving positive reinforcement for the good things they do, they are more likely to engage in negative behaviors to get attention.

Always treat your children and the other people in your life with respect. Many parents demand respect without realizing how crucial it is to give it as well. If you do not want your children to hit, you should not hit either. Your child is more likely to follow your rules if you show them that you feel they are a priority.

When you are parenting along with someone else you have to respect the fact that they may handle certain situations differently than you will. Never second guess them in front of the child because that will cause confusion and result in your child being in the middle of conflict.

Even if your child fails, praise them for a job well done. There is no harm in helping them learn from their mistakes and helping them to not make the same ones again. But telling them they're a failure or a loser will break their self-esteem to pieces. Nurture them even in their darkest moments.

A common question new parents have is how to determine when their child is ready to be potty trained. First, in order to use the toilet, your child much have certain skills. For example, they need to be able to take off their clothes, they must have a certain amount of control over their bladder and bowel movements. Second, the child should be able to communicate in case there are any problems. If your child can do all things, the best way to start is to model the appropriate actions for the child and practice with them.

When trying to prepare your child for bedtime, always keep the same routine. A routine will get your kid in the mindset of being ready to sleep. When a child is accustomed to taking his bath, putting on pajamas and hearing a story in bed, then he acclimates to the idea that sleep is the next step in the bedtime ritual. Your child will quickly get used to this routine and will not contest it.
