Transforming Your Bathroom Into A Modern Oasis

Thebathroom can make or break any home sale. When selling a home or when renovating a house, you should look at the bathroom --almost as much as the kitchen. These two rooms make the biggest impression when you are showing your residence. Or if you're selling it, these rooms become points of interest for the buyer. So keep these tips in mind when you're trying to spruce up your old bathroom.
First look at the tiles. If your house was built in the 1950's, 1960's, or 1970's the tiles in the bathroom could very likely be outdated. There is a chance that a retro tile was installed in your bathroom that has made the crossover from being outdated to back in style, but more than likely you will want to upgrade you tiles. Like any home improvement project (from kitchen cabinets to bathroom tiles) you should shop online and compare prices. You will find that bathroom tiles range greatly in price, but you might be able to find better deals online. One down fall to buying tiles online is shipping, so make sure the tiles you find (if they are online) are within a normal driving distance. The other option is painting the existing ...
... tiles. These days there is a heavy duty paint that will cover old tiles and make them look new - some prep work is involved but it makes for a quick fix on an old tiled bathroom and saves you money in the process.
Next, if you do not have a tile bathroom, then consider a new coat of paint for your walls. Chances are it is a shade of white or beige. These colors are great for a bathroom and provide extra light; however, any bathroom color will fade and collect resin. So a good cleaning of the walls and a new coat of paint will defiantly make a bathroom look sanitary and up to date.
From the paint the next step is caulk. This is a simple job, but it is often over looked. Caulk all areas of the tub, shower, around the sink, toilet and other cracks or crevices along the floor. You want to keep water out of everywhere and the best way to do it is with silicon or caulk. This simple procedure will prevent mold and give your bathroom a more finished appearance. If you're not good with a caulk gun, don't worry. You can use your finger to smooth it out and you can always clean it up with a damp towel or paper cloth. Caulking is easy and it can be done by anyone with a little patience.
Finally you want to look at the bathroom vanity and mirror. These things are the furniture of the bathroom and should be the center piece. If they are outdated, then consider replacing them. The other items like the toilet and shower can just be cleaned and left alone, but the bathroom vanity is an important focal point in the bathroom. Again shop online for bathroom vanities - compare prices and use options like RTA bathroom vanities to save money on this part of your project. (RTA is simply ready to assemble vanities as opposed to an assembled vanity that costs about 40% more). This type of vanity is a great alternative that will save you a lot of money.
So keep these tips in mind, use some short cuts if you need to save money and make sure your bathroom is clean and ready to go when you're showing off your house.
