The key to a healthy or alkaline diet is to do the following:

Provide your body with right number of calories to remain active all day long. With an appropriate quantity of calories you can balance the energy you consume with the energy you use. It is a confirmed fact that if you eat more than the body requirement, you put on extra weight. And opposite to it if you eat and drink too little, you lose the weight. According to the studies a normal man needs around 2,500 calories a day, whereas an average woman needs 2,000 calories. But, the surveys say, most adults are eating more calories than they need, and should eat fewer calories.

Starchy foods: Starchy foods should cover up around one third of the foods you eat. These include cereals, potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Always try to choose wholegrain varieties as these contain more fibre, and can make you feel full and energetic. One should at least include single starchy food with each main meal. Though, it is a popular concept that starchy foods are fattening, but gram for gram these contain fewer than half the calories of fat.

Eat more fish: Fish is a rich source of protein, vitamins and minerals, thus it can be considered the significant part of an alkaline diet. Always eat at least two portions a week, containing at least one portion of oily fish. Oily fish contains a good quantity of omega-3 fats, which may help to avoid heart disease.

Avoid saturated fat and sugar: no doubt, we all require some fat in our diet. But it is important to keep the amount and type of fat in mind while selecting. Generally we take two types of fats; saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat increases the level of cholesterol in the blood and the risk of developing heart problems. Hard cheese, biscuits, butter, cakes, lard, sausages and pies are the main sources of it. Try to cut down these products and choose foods that contain unsaturated rather than saturated fats.

With these tips you can make your daily diet as healthy as possible. Everyone should follow a proper diet so to live prosperously throughout the life.
