Online Indian Tussar Silk Punjabi Suits
Tussar silk, also known as ‘kosa’ silk , is made from silk obtained from several species of caterpillars, of the moth genus antheraea. It is known as ‘wild silk’, because the silkworms breed on trees such as Sal and Arjun found in the forests of Jharkhand. The raw silk has a deep golden colour and is of good texture. Tussar silk staples are shorter and less expensive in comparison to that of cultivated silk because of the resulting quality of the produce from these silkworms in comparison to that from cultivated types. The cocoons are generally boiled to make the cocoon soft for easy extraction of silk.
However some weavers prefer to allow the silkworms to leave the cocoon before boiling. This takes ten to fifteen days after they have fed on the leaves, and is popularly known as ‘Ahimsa or non-violent’ silk. Tussar silk is mainly found in India, in the states of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, and Bhagalpur in Bihar, which is also famous as a commercial centre for the production of tussar silk. Eastern parts of India like Orissa and West Bengal and a small portion of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh also contribute ...
... to tussar silk production in India. Tribals in Jharkhand, for whom sericulture accounts as a major source of livelihood, and weavers of Bhagalpur, are skilled weavers of hand-woven Tussar silk fabrics. Hand spun and coloured with vegetable dyes, the fabrics they produce are eco-friendly. The use of leftover silk from woven fabrics, is also made to create designs on the main fabric. The woven tussar silk salwar kameez has a coarse texture, is light on the body, airy and has a comfortable feel about it.
The yellow and pink pure Jaipuri Tussar silk Punjabi suit has multi-colour embroidered floral buttis with kundan and phulkari work on the Kameez, with a blue and pink attached patch border. The salwar is plain pink and the dual colour pure chiffon chunni has a lace patch border. This exquisite floral salwar kameez offering would be suitable for any big occasion such as weddings, parties, social functions and festivals.
The cream and green Tussar silk embroidery neck work Punjabi suit has red, green and zari embroidered floral buttis on the kameez. The salwar is a fancy green silk one and the green chiffon chunni is one with an attached gold colour patch border. This jazzy piece would suit any occasion for style and fashion.
