Holes often include hazards, which are special areas that have additional rules for play. These are generally of two types: (1) water hazards, such as ponds, lakes, and rivers; and (2) bunkers, or sand traps.

Putting green refers to the smooth and even surface with close cut grass surrounding the hole. This facilitates he player to put the golf ball in the hole with relative ease.
