Super Mario is a popular series of games developed by Nintendo. The games feature two characters Mario, a plumber and his brother Luigi. Shigeru Miyamoto, a Japanese game designer, has designed the character Mario. Mario first appeared as Jumpman in the game Donkey Kong, in which he rescues a lady from an ape ‘Donkey Kong'. In 1983, Mario Bros. was released. Both the games were a huge success and in 1985, the sequel to Mario Bros. i.e. Super Mario Bros. was released. It had a very interesting story line and was well received by gamers. This game started a new trend, the trend for games with a storyline.

In Super Mario, Mario tries to save Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom from the clutches of the Koppas. The Koppas is a tribe of turtles well versed in black magic and they have turned the people of Mushroom Kingdom into bricks. Only the Princess can save the kingdom. There are special powers like mushroom, fire flower and star that are hidden in the bricks. These have to be located and collected by Mario to kill the enemies faster and hence complete the level before the time runs out. By collecting a mushroom, Mario becomes Super Mario and cannot be killed by his enemies in one shot. By collecting a fire flower, Mario gets the power to throw fireballs on powerful turtles, which cannot be killed by just jumping on them. By collecting a star, Mario gets the power to remain unaffected by the enemies for some time and during this time he can run over his enemies to kill them. The only way Mario can die during this period is by falling into the pit or lava or if the time runs out. Mario also gets the points when he kills an enemy or collects the coins. Some of the coins are visible while some are hidden in the bricks. All these things make this game very interesting and adventurous.
