Today is a world of specialization. Mere basic degrees in your education do not get you the coveted jobs in industry or academics. The better specialization you have, the more focused you can become on your field of interest. Many students these days do not stop with bachelor’s degrees, they go for post graduate degrees for better career prospects. Again the master’s degree should also be in a field which is new and multidisciplinary so that you have multiple avenues to choose your career path from.

Computational fluid dynamics engineering is one such unique field. It is the science which deals with the flow of fluids. It is a sub field of fluid mechanics and it involves the use of numerical calculations to resolve issues related to the flow of fluid; liquids as well as gases. The interaction of fluids with boundaries is simulated with the help of computers and computers are used to perform these complicated numericals and algorithms. The developments in this field have solved a number of problems related to fluid dynamics since very complicated systems especially transonic and turbulent flow can be easily simulated ...
... virtually. A career in this filed could be a very good choice especially if one is interested in fluid dynamics.

Under the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies located in Dehradun, they have started a Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineering College. The program is a full time two year post graduated degree (M. Tech.).

The eligibility criteria are well defined. Applicants need to have a minimum of 60% marks in 10th as well as 12th standards. Also, applicants need to possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering (B.E. or B. Tech.) with minimum 60% marks. The bachelor’s degree can be in any discipline. Aspiring students need to apply to the program directly. The applications will be screened based on merit and academic achievements and short listed applicants will be called for a personal interview. Applicants qualifying the interview will be admitted to the program.
The program is divided into four semesters. The first three semesters have theory and practical course work while the last semester is for project work. The first semester deals with all the basics required for computation fluid dynamics. The second and third semesters go deeper in the subject. In the third semester, the students have to do a summer internship in industry. They have to present the work they did during the internship in the form of a seminar. Students also have to work on a project in this and the last semester. The Computation Fluid Dynamics Institute at the UPES has been designed in a way that students learn both theory and practical and get fully equipped to face the challenges of the industry.

All information about the institute can be found at http://www.upes.ac.in/mtech-Comp-Fluid.html. The link gives complete details about the institute’s campus, the course introduction, every semester subjects, the course duration, the fee construction and the eligibility conditions. Online application facility for the computational fluid dynamics engineering program is also available here.
