Great End-of-season Ski In Courchevel
The resort is composed of five distinct villages: Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550, Le Praz 1300 and La Tania, each at their own altitude. Courchevel was dreamt up in the 1930s with the intention of making it the best and biggest ski resort in the world so some of these villages were actually purpose built to attract skiers and cater for them. Nonetheless, their charm and the warmth of the locals are genuine.
Millions of tourists come annually to ski in the area internationally known as the Three Valleys (les Trois Vallées), where Courchevel is located. The resort was first thought of to serve the wealthiest skiers but today, the offer is wider and can suit all kinds of budget. And with the 600 km of slopes available with one ski pass, it is every skier's dream come true, rich or poor. The slopes are of various levels of difficulty so beginners, intermediates and experts alike will find interesting challenges and learning opportunities.
The slopes are always ready for your fresh wax in Courchevel, thanks to the more than five hundred snow cannons and the 26 piste-bashers that keep you out ...
... skiing no matter what the weather brings. This is especially important for a pleasant end-of-season ski experience. Ski schools are teaching their students basic skills as well as very advanced ones, and guides can take you out on some of the most challenging off-pistes trails you can find in Europe. Another interesting fact for skiers in search of one last thrill before putting away their equipment for the season: with all of its lifts, the resort can almost guarantee that you'll never get caught in queue when wanting to ski.
Ski in Courchevel and the Three Valleys is possible by purchasing a daily pass, a 6-day pass or a season pass. Prices depend on the age of skiers and if it is high or low season. Obviously, a season pass is not a choice for an end-of-season ski getaway but it is recommended that you stay for a minimum of one week in the region, so that you can explore the whole ski area and really take advantage of diversity it offers. It is to be noted that the 2008-2009 winter season in Courchevel ends on April 26th.
Courchevel has a wide offer of accommodationsâ€from hostel to luxury five-star hotel-spas, in any of the five villages. Most hotels have an in-house restaurant and, as long as you stay in the area, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Like in any European ski resort, après-ski venues are great but odds are that if you take advantage of all the skiing, you won't have much energy for après-ski. But, if you do, Courchevel certainly can be used as a place to get wild at night after a long day of skiing.
