At What Point Does A Car Need Transmission Repair In Escondido And Other North County Cities
Stop-and-go traffic and driving up roads with steep grades are two things that put a lot of stress on transmissions. In North San Diego County, heavy traffic and hills are a part of every-day driving for most people, and for this reason, transmission repair in Escondido and other North County cities is a part of regular vehicle maintenance.
Often a vehicle’s transmission will be neglected to the point it finally has to be replaced. But there are signs you can watch for that signal transmission trouble, allowing you to have some general repair work performed rather than a complete replacement.
One of the first clues that could point toward a need for transmission repair in Escondido is leaking transmission fluid. Usually you can spot these leaks on the ground underneath the car. You can also tell if there’s a transmission leak by checking the transmission fluid regularly. This fluid, unlike a vehicle’s oil, shouldn’t get “used,” but rather its level should remain fairly consistent.
If your transmission is leaking fluid, get the car to a shop for ...
... repairs. If too much of the fluid is lost, the entire transmission will be destroyed and can no longer be helped with basic transmission repair. In Escondido, San Marcos, Vista and Oceanside, drivers put a lot of wear and tear on their transmissions, and regular inspection of fluid levels can save huge expenses down the line.
A car with an automatic transmission that shakes a little (or a lot) when switching gears needs to be looked at before serious damage occurs. Transmission trouble in a vehicle with a manual transmission is often signaled by the sound of grinding when shifting into some or all of the gears.
Another sign of a weakened transmission is noises when the car is sitting in neutral. A transmission that is performing properly isn’t supposed to make noise, so if you hear anything unusual, it’s smart to have it checked out. Also, if you smell burning and can determine that it’s coming from the transmission, the likely cause is low fluid which, as already noted, needs to be looked at by an experienced mechanic.
A final thing to watch for that could prompt you to seek transmission repair in Escondido and neighboring cities is the red engine light on your dashboard. Many cars won’t tell you exactly what the problem is but will only flash a “check engine” message or something similar. A problem with your transmission could be the reason this light is going on.
In summary, steep hills and stop-and-go driving are hard on transmissions. If this is your normal type of driving, it’s critical that you pay attention to signs of transmission problems and have repairs done quickly in order to save the expense of buying an entire new transmission.
