Camp Armour Video Review
A lot of people who tried it on were amazed by how nice it felt on the dome. Truth be informed, and we felt a bit like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle while donning it, since our review helmet was green. Despite being heavier than most other helmets tested (by a fraction of an ounce), the Armor still felt like among the lighter helmets it is so cozy.
Not all helmets stay put on your own brain, but the Armour does. This helmet gets tough competition from the following $ 60-65 helmets which are also fantastic : Petzl Elios, Mammut Skywalker 2 and Black Diamond Half Dome. We have trouble saying which is best so attempt them all and notice what fits you best. You may be surprised, as we were, at exactly how comfy this helmet is. It is difficult to defeat the Petzl Meteor III, should you not mind a higher priced and frail helmet.
This helmet did ill in the headlamp test; the clips were too tight in the front. This isn't a big offer because most folks do not need to put a headlamp on and off a lot. And who understands, perhaps the tighter clips within the front mean the headlamp is less likely to come off in a fall. ...
... The Armour makes a great wall climbing helmet. In fact, it operates equally well for practically any situation you'll strike climbing, from ice, trad, sport and big wall (including nail-ups), even alpine. We normally go for a polycarbonate helmet like the Petzl Meteor III, when enormous wall free climbing, but despite the heavier weight of the Armour, we still reached for it has excellent ventilation and because it felt tough. It also believes more away of the way compared to the Half Dome.
For most of this review Chris Van Leuven thought the Armour was certainly one of the lightest helmets. But when we set it on the scales it really was certainly one of the heavier ones (but maybe not by much). This underscores the fact that while the Armor isn't among the lightest, it certainly feels as though it is.
This foam is on the peak of the helmet, around the edges and even on the chin strap. Unlike the Skywalker II or Altios that sit on the top of head, the Armour wraps around the forehead, which gives it a secure feeling.
The Armor is undoubtedly the helmet with the most vibrant color combinations. Most helmet colours are rather conservative but CAMP gives you five bold shade combos.
Whenever you press the sides in with two hands it bends much less than most other helmets. That's not a very scientific means to analyze durabilty. The crucial question in science is consistently: is that correlation or causation? We don't know and we are not scientists.
The Armour is really one of the heaviest helmets tested (but is just a one half oz heavier than most other helmets in its class). Honestly, we didnt find the Armour weighs more compared to the other helmets tested; this is likely due to its sleek design.
In a few ways the chin strap is quite comfy as it possesses a removable cushioned sheath. But in other ways the chin strap is a little clunky. It is not possible to adjust easily while wearing and is a good little challenging to adjust when you take it off because of the additional padding sheath. In cool temps the larger padded chin strap is comfy. But when the temps climb the larger chin strap becomes more noticeable because it breathes less. In these situations we eliminated the padded sheath. This helped, but the chin straps were still on the large size.
This helmet is not de rigueur at the crags. Perhaps this is because its a brand fewer individuals are familiar with and it is not quite standardlooking. Having said that, it's gaining popularity and is a top seller at the Yosemite Mountain Shop, one of the best known mountain shops in america. We set the Armour within the group as the Mammut Skywalker II: priced competitively, comfy and simple to correct, but maybe not a standard sight at the crags... however. The CAMP Armour is an awesome value. It truly is tied for least expensive helmet with all the Black Diamond Half Dome and Mammut Skywalker II.
