Gareth ‘bale-ing’ Out His Team
Tottenham Hotspur as a football club has always been quite tame; their football player average and their performances lukewarm. But then something happens out of the stops Spurs’ fate on its tracks and changes the course of their destiny forever. And that something was the signing of Welsh football player- Gareth Bale on 25th May of 2007. Even since his first competitive game against Premier League Giant Manchester United, he has filled in the position of the ‘knight in shining armor’ for the distressed Hotspurs. While he showed promise at a very young age and even during his time with the Southampton, it was not until he joined the Spurs that he was able to unleash his true potential. He spent five glorious years with the club, evolving into a stellar winger.
His consecutive goals garnered in a swashbuckling manner, his famous hat tricks and assists earned him a place on the coveted mantle along with the contemporary football greats. His techniques and lethal winger skills have often drawn parallels to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Taking into consideration Gareth Bale’s statistics ...
... alone, one can see that he is due the amount of respect he gets. A voracious goal getter, he has led the team to victory, almost single handedly on numerous occasions. Last season alone, he has scored twenty one goals in thirty six appearances for the club and country together. Of these seventeen were for the Tottenham Hotspurs while thirteen were for his country. He achieved all of this and more with in the tender age of twenty three. Within this period, he has reaped numerous awards and plaudits, preening Gareth Bale profile in the process. During the 2009-2010 season, he was named the Barclays Player of the Month for April. The following season, Bale was adjudged PFA Player of the Year. In early 2012, he won the Premier league Player of the month for the second time.
Given the circumstances, it would be a terrible loss for the Spurs if they don’t renew his contract with the club. It wouldn’t be much of a loss for the winger though, as clubs are fighting each other with a stick to get him on their turf. Some are even willing to shell out as much as 50 million pounds to lure the player away from Spurs. So do you think he’s worth all the money and the hype? Yes, absolutely; that should be your answer.
