Few Interesting Dos And Don’ts Of Classified Advertising
Classified advertising has become one of the most popular ways to sell stuff online. Though there were avenues to sell products online even before classifieds appeared on the internet, there’s been a huge shift of people from e-commerce websites to classified portals. There are a lot of reasons for the same including the power to buy or sell without registering, the privilege to place ads for free and searching for the product of your choice as opposed to scanning those diminutive fonts in traditional newspaper classifieds. Also, the multiple kinds of classifieds available such as Free Car Ads, Free Pet Ads, Free Real Estate Ads etc. makes it easy for users to find their type of product.
There are a few dos and don’ts of using online classifieds that you should probably know. Here’s a look at them:
Dos
• Pay attention to your headline: Whenever people search for a specific product, all relevant searches appear. They choose from the one which has the most interesting headline. Make sure your headline is so gripping that people feel compelled ...
... to click the moment they read it. Try to incorporate words like greatest, best, exclusive, for the first time, never seen before etc. People feel that they are receiving the best deal when they come across such words.
• Add photos: One of the chief benefits of using free classifieds is the privilege of posting photographs. One never had this facility in newspaper classifieds. You can upload pictures of your product in order to make your claim look genuine and also make your prospective buyers inch towards a sale. Research has shown that classified ads that have a photograph have a greater chance of selling as compared to ads that don’t have a picture.
• Make your copy keyword rich: By keywords, we mean the words that best describe your product/service. This will help the classified to display your advertisement on the top whenever someone enters a search query that matches your keywords.
Don’ts
• Exaggerate your claims: Making claims is one aspect of your advertisement but making exaggerated claims takes your ad on a different tangent. People can have extremely high expectations if there are broad claims. However, if you are unable to live up to those claims, your reputation as a seller can be irreversibly destroyed. Make exaggerated claims only if you know your product is absolutely unique, and is available only with you.
• Criticize someone else’s ad: People have the habit of criticizing other people’s ads just to make them look inferior and try to gain superiority. However, the audience is pretty smart. Rather than putting someone down, try to show the benefits of the product you’ve put up for sale.
