A cummerbund is a very popular item of men’s formal wear along with club ties. People who are unfamiliar with what a cummerbund is will have most likely seen one but just won’t be familiar with its name. A cummerbund is worn around the waist and is most often worn with a dinner suit for black tie events. The origins of the cummerbund date back many years and they were first inspired by the scarves that men wore around their waist in India. In the past a cummerbund was worn to hold items around the waist but now they are mainly worn just for formal purposes. When a cummerbund is worn it can be worn either pleat up or down. Retailers who sell cummerbund products for formal wear will tend to stock them in a wide range of colours and fabrics and they are also likely to sell club ties in any of the same fabrics.
A cummerbund can be made for a man or woman and they are often worn as part of a uniform in high class establishments. They may be worn by waiting on staff in hotels and restaurants to make them look smart and this is why they can be made for both men and women. A cummerbund will tend to have an adjustable waist ...
... so it can be made to fit the wearer perfectly. A cummerbund will most commonly be worn at events like weddings, formal dinners, society events and corporate events where the dress code warrants a cummerbund. Many men will often choose to wear a black suit then wear colourful club ties or a coloured cummerbund to add a splash of colour to their outfit. Club ties are often worn as part of a work uniform or by members of a club who will all wear their club ties when they meet or attend events.
Club ties can be made with fabrics that show the clubs logo or this can be embroidered onto club ties. When it comes to purchasing club ties both clip on and standard ties are available in either woven or printed polyester, silk or poly-silk to a bespoke design. Standard club ties will come with a wool interlining with matching tipping and tie loop. Most companies who make bespoke club ties and cummerbund products will have hundreds of materials for customers to choose from.
