They are both Spanish nationals playing central defense in football for Spanish football clubs, albeit separate ones. This is the similar factors that link FC Barcelona central defender, Gerard Pique and Real Madrid central defender, Sergio Ramos. From this similarity stems one of the fiercest animosity and rivalry in the present day football. Rivalries between clubs are not uncommon nor are on field rivalries between players. But when one of those supposedly healthy rivalries spills over to the boundaries of the football field and cause two players to maintain it on a day to day basis, it can have unsavory consequences.

Competition between Pique and Ramos started with the friendly race to the title trophy by the two madridistas- Barcelona and Real Madrid. Both the clubs and the cheering football crazy crowd have utilized their little animosity to full extent of their personal enjoyment. It was quite evident that Ramos and Pique did not get along. ... contribute towards the Spanish national team. They were supposed to come together and ‘defend’ their country playing for La Roja in the international football tournament. The Spanish national coach, like many others, had concerns that they would carry on their little and that cannot be encouraged while they are putting up a united front against other aspiring teams.

So Vincente del Bosque firmly stated that the two players put aside their differences and come together to defend the title in Euro 2012, which they won in the last edition of the championships in 2008. If they fail to follow this particular order, they will simply be put off the team.

Sergio Ramos profile is known to be that of a heated one. Once, during a press conference, a Catalonian reporter requested Pique to answer one of his questions in Andalusian. Since regional independence related issue is a sensitive topic, Ramos’s sensibilities were slightly offended. And so when Pique offered to repeat the same answer in Spanish as well, a visibly upset Sergio Ramos, in the hopes of ridiculing the reporter, ordered Pique to continue in Andalusian and made it look like the reporter was struggling to grasp Spanish. The recent rumors are that the two have indeed buried the hatchet and is comparatively on good terms since the European tournament.
