Football Players's Charity Work
Sports stars are one of the most highly paid people on the face of this earth. Some of them rake in more than 45 million a year. People like Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, LeBron James, Roger Federer, David Beckhma, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo et al rake in more than 45 million dollars a year. Most of it goes for the up keeping of their lavish lifestyle;, which is justified since the money is theirs to do what they want to with it. But it needs to be acknowledged that most of these athletes or sports celebrity, give back generously to the society that helped forge them into the stellar icons that they are. Some charitable works might be a publicity stunt of sort, while others might be born out of truly genial feelings towards a fellow human being, but whatever maybe the intention; people are helped in the process and most often than not, that all that counts. Here are a few football players that have contributed generously to the society:
• Didier Drogba is considered as one of the most influential people of the world and for good reason. His charitable foundation financed by his own hard earned money helps the ...
... unfortunate and suffering African Children to a better life. He has, through this foundation, helped raise money to build hospitals and orphanages.
• Craig Bellamy might be the bad boy of football, but this rogue has a heart of gold. His charity institution- the Craig Bellamy Football Foundation helps promote the game of football in Sierra Leone, hence sending out positive energy and hope to the whole country.
• Michael Essien proved that he is not just a remarkable footbaal player but also a remarkable human being when he donated one third of his wages to his charity which focuses on improving the life style, education and health care of children.
• Few people know that Arsenal player NwankwoKanu had pulled through a major heart defect problem. Since then he has set up a foundation to help people with heart defects in Nigeria who can’t afford surgeries.
• Dirk Kuyt has set up a charity that is funded by his own cash to help children with disabilities.
• ZinedineZidane of the ‘thickskull’ fame is a softie otherwise. He was a player in the United Nations initiative- Annual Match Against Poverty that hopes to thwart poverty.
• Then there is Cristiano Roanaldo’s profile which might seem extravagant in the first look. But recently the player donated 100,000 euros to rehabilitate Afghan people who were victims of landmine explosions.
