However, in 1942 and 1946, the tournaments were not held due to the Second World War. The World Cup 2014 will mark the 20th FIFA World Cup tournament.

The greatest advantage to the host nation is that this famous sporting event fosters development. It is evident that a nation like South Africa benefited greatly after hosting the World Cup in 2010. This event promotes public health, education, and development of infrastructure in a major way. Additionally, it introduces the host country to the world in the best possible way. Brazil will host the FIFA World Cup 2014 then Russia and Qatar will follow in 2018 and 2022 respectively.
