It is a known fact that constipation can become a very painful experience if not taken care of at an early stage; it may also result in death in extreme cases. Nevertheless, there is no dearth of constipation remedies in the medical world anymore but, on the flipside, there are also cases of wherein the remedies fail to provide long lasting result and may create unpleasant side effects. That is why it is important to be aware about certain facts and then choose the remedies accordingly.

Primarily, it is important to note that constipation is not a disease; it is a just a symptom which indicates that something is wrong with the digestive system. There can be mainly two types of constipations; obstructed defecation and hypomobilty. The former is the patient’s inability to voluntarily evacuate rectal content which can be caused by mechanical as well as functional disorder of the body system. On the other hand, hypomobilty, also known as colonic slow transit, is caused by unbalanced diet, hormonal disorder, side effects of medications and heavy metal toxicity. However, ...
... the third and the most important point to note is that constipation is easier to prevent than to treat. Therefore, one should always eat a balanced diet and maintain a disciplined and active lifestyle. Indeed, adequate exercises, fibre rich diet as well as sufficient intake of fluid can keep the bowel health in perfect condition and this in turn can keep the person free from many fatal diseases.

It is important to remember that while intake of laxative may sometimes be necessary, one should never make a habit of it. Instead, it is crucial to include enough dietary fibre in the daily diet that helps in the smooth movement of the stool. To increase the intake of fibre, it is for the best to have cereals with high fibre at breakfast, whole or multigrain breads, extra vegetables and fruits, crackers etc. The appropriate limit of fibre intake in a diet should be 40gms per day. Thus, to lead a happy and constipation free life, it is vital to not only exercise but also maintain a carefully chalked out disciplined life.
