In your dwelling there are many ways to reduce costs and be more cost effective. One of these is the installation of dual flush toilets.

If you are not familiar with this plumbing development, it is really very easy. You can choose between a short flush and a longer flush when you go to the toilet.

This may seem a minimal thing, but in fact it has important advantages. By buying a toilet with a low and a high volume flush, you can cut the amount of water you use by 50%.

The long flush uses six liters and the short flush uses three liters.

A study was conducted recently across 12 Canadian municipalities. In houses, business and institutional settings, they put to the test the dual flush toilet technology.

What might be of interest is a number of these settings had older toilets which used thirteen liters each flush, and there were even older versions that used more than twenty liters.

Recent technology used around the world, but not yet commonplace in the United States, results in the waste being pushed out of the bowl, which is better than the older technology ...
... where the waste is pulled or siphoned out by the flush.

From the 158 survey questionnaires returned, all of the participants said they had a liking for the dual flush option and the satisfaction results for the different types of toilets were between 72% and 79%.

If you are looking at putting in a dual flush toilet, ensure you look into every one of the possibilities as results were dependent on the sort of toilet they were using to trial.

As regards the water reduction, in a single family house, flush volumes were decreased by 68%. In office washrooms there was a decrease of 56%, and in a restaurant there was a decrease of 52%.

It was, however, found that some of the toilets installed were done so with the incorrect flapper and so they were using too much water. It is to be advised, therefore, to ensure your new dual flush toilet is actually functioning correctly.

Talk to your plumber regarding bowl streaking because there were also some negative feedback regarding this issue so ensure your version is the best you can afford.

One must say, this is not a recent development. It is a mandatory requirement to have installed dual flush toilets in new dwellings in a number of countries around the world for example New Zealand and Australia, and a number of municipalities in the United States where water consumption is concerning.

Dual flush toilets are very simple to use, with two buttons obviously labelled as to which is the long and which is the short flush. They do, however, require a plumber to have installed, but for the decrease of water consumption and its associated cost savings, and for the good you are doing to the environment in this age of climate change, the putting in of a dual flush toilet in your dwelling or workplace. is something for you to consider.
