India Lesser Know Stalwarts

Everyone knows there are eleven players in the Indian cricket team that plays and there are many more in the bench. India, being a cricket crazy nation as it is, is well equipped with the knowledge of who plays what and who is who and who the creme de la creme are. When you look at it, the Indian cricket team is socially divided into two by differentiation of their public status. To simply put, some cricketers are famous, while some are not. There is a tiny gap between the two strata where the up and coming players who are mildly famous reside. When I mean mildly, I mean those who play quite well but have not been in the business long enough to be recognized by any Tom, Dick and Harry.
To make it even more graphic, let’s paint a picture. Imagine a cricket pyramid as such. This pyramid exists only in the public aspect of the players and is in fact no existent. Now, at the top, you have players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Saurav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Yousaf Pathan et al who are known for their lives outside of their professional sphere. Then you have players like Murali Vijay, ...
... Piyush Chawla, Suresh Raina and the others filling the a smaller area of ambiguous popularity. Then at the bottom, we have players like Varun Aaron, Vinay Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin who are comparatively nonexistent in the minds of the Indian public. It is important that we know a little about these players as well. It is not like they are bad players. Quite contrary they show excellent form and skills while playing.
Take Ravichandran Ashwin profile for example. Besides playing for national team he also bowls for the Tamil Nadu cricket team. His trademark move known as the ‘carrom ball’ has caught the attention of his peers and fans alike. He exhibits a lot of versatility in his bowling techniques. He is an active member of the Indian Premier League team, Chennai Super Kings. As a matter of fact he was their highest wicket taker during the 2010 Champions League Twenty20. Owing to his impressive performance he was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ and was awarded the golden ticket. His economy rate of 6.12 makes him the most economical bowler in Indian Premier League history. He performed another impressive feat when he took his 500 run in his eleventh test cricket match. Ashwin is truly on his way to success.
