Weddings are times to bring out the “traditional you”. However, soon-to-be brides do not have to feel restricted in your choice of dress for the wedding. Read on the article to know the different styles that you can opt for your own wedding.

Within traditional limits, you can explore a whole galaxy of dress styles. From designer wear suits, sarees and other traditional wear, you can explore and experiment with ideas of your own to look stylish and fashionable. The beauty of Indian weddings is that you get to experiment with clothes. Here are some great ideas for Indian wedding dress styles.

Mix and match
Saree is the standard dress for most of the Indian weddings, although people of some cultures use lehnga cholis and salwar suits. If you plan to wear a saree, the six yards of fabric is all yours to experiment. Meet with a designer and talk about blending two different styles of sarees. Brainstorm with the designer over colour combinations, fabrics and patterns.

For instance, use a beautiful Benaras saree for the wrapping round the waist and pleating, and use a heavily embellished net saree ...
... for the pallu. You need a designer to cut and sew the two different fabrics perfectly. A kanchivaram silk saree blends well with a gold shimmer fabric. Use a heavy silk saree as the skirt and use sheer embroidered net fabric for the saree. You can also experiment with the blouse and come up with some stunning patterns.

Apart from blending two fabrics of different origins you can also play around with different ways of wearing sarees. There are umpteen options of how you can play around with a six yard fabric. You can experiment with different cultural styles, for instance Mahrashtrians have a different way of wearing sarees than Bengalis, so you can team it up with similar costume jewellery and wear a Maharashtrian style on your haldi ceremony, while sport a Bengali saree wearing style on your Sangeet or Mehendi ceremony.

Also you can drape a heavy wedding saree in various ways – from mermaid style, ghagra style, rajrani style, Mumtaz style to flaunt a trendy and fashionable look.

Embellish
Embroidery brings a traditional appeal to the dress. You can customise a silk saree or lehnga with heavy embroidery. The good thing about embroidery is that it can be done on any kind of fabric, be it silk, satin, net or sheer. Also, you can use a wide range of threads for the work. Depending on the kind of look you want, decide whether to use gold zari, zardozi, satin threads or something else. India is very rich when it comes to craftsmanship styles. You can choose among mirror work, tukdi work along with kundans and shimmers, jali work, gota work, Kashmiri embroidery and so many others.

Time of the wedding should be an important consideration when you choose the colours for wedding dresses. The best loved colours are shades of red, maroon, blue, pink and orange. Pastel colours are catching up on the fashion trend. For embellishments, it is invariably gold, silver or copper.

Sit with your designer and come up with something creative. Most importantly, make sure that your make-up for wedding compliments your attire perfectly.
