Finlock guttering is a traditional style of guttering that was widely used in the past but finlock gutters are no longer used today. Finlock guttering has a number of downsides compared to plastic guttering and this is why it is no longer in use. Although finlock gutters are not installed anymore there are many properties that still have finlock guttering in situ from when it was first installed. Finlock guttering is made from concrete and this makes it heavy and hard to repair. Overtime finlock gutters will start to sag and many will also develop a problem with water penetration which will in turn allow damp into a property causing what can be expensive and serious damage. When finlock gutters start to sag they will look unattractive and they will make a property look in a poor state of repair. Finlock guttering that is leaking or cracked can be repaired and this tends to done by lining the finlock gutters with tar, aluminium, lead or plastic.
Lining Finlock guttering is a short term solution and it will not solve the problem of sagging finlock gutters. If people want to never ...
... have the worry of leaking, cracked and sagging gutters that can cause damp then they should consider having their finlock guttering removed and replaced with new plastic fascia’s and guttering. Not only will this remove the problem of unsightly finlock gutters it will also provide an effective long term solution to stop damp and provide effective protection to the property in wet weather. Lining finlock guttering is a cheaper alternative compared to replacing finlock gutters altogether as some people just may not be able to afford completely new guttering.
Finlock guttering should only ever be repaired or replaced by companies who specialise in this line of work to ensure that any liners or new gutters are installed correctly to provide effective protection form the elements. Anyone who plans to stay in their property long term and currently has finlock guttering should seriously consider having their finlock gutters removed and replaced with new plastic gutters as this will probably save them expensive repair bills in the future.
