Ashok Dinda - A Silver Lining

There is a name that is regularly heard on the cricket stadium these days. It is a name that started out as a hushed murmur but soon turned it a full blown chant in a matter of few months. It is a name that will soon be up there in the mantle with the rest of the cricketing greats- it is Ashok Dinda. He is just not your average middle order batsman or one of the run of the mill bowlers, but he is a chock full of talent waiting for the right moment to unleash it’s the full potential on the rest of the world.
Indian cricket team has had an almost disappointing year in 2012. The first blow to the team, came directly to back bone of the enterprise, in the form of the collective retirements of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman from the One-Day Internationals (ODI). The second blow was in the form of a series of sporadic ‘sucker punches’ delivered right to the squad’s ego as a result of India’s depressive performance throughout the year. The year 2012 kick started with a total annihilation at the hands of the Australian cricket team during the tests and ended in a fitting manner with England leading ...
... the home series 2-1. Not exactly a great time to be an Indian cricket fan let alone a cricket player. To sum up, India played in a total of nine Test series, of which India won three tests (barely) and lost five. Granted there are a few highlights worth a proud mention among the endless parade of embarrassments such as Virat Kohli’s astronomic rise to a grade a cricketer which resulted in his appointment as vice-captain; Yuvraj Singh’s much awaited comeback to the his cricket dynasty, from his battle with cancer; Unmukt Chand’s monumental 111 runs that helped decide the fate of the Under-19 team that took home the World Cup; and Sachin Tendulkar’s history making 100th century at the Asia Cup.
Another sub note to be added in the list of positive points for ‘India’ s year gone by’ would be the coming of age (cricket wise) of Dinda who helped India beat Pakistan during the second T20 series. It’s about time Ashok Dinda profile hit the limelight. He has definitely come a long way from hisT20 international debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. He has broken in to the main squad since then and is showing singhs of being a team regular.
