Renal Transplant: A New Lease Of Life For People

Renal transplant or kidney transplant is performed on patients who have end stage renal disease (ESRD). Kidney failure can be caused by a variety of medical conditions like diabetes, chronic blood pressure, etc. In the end stage the kidneys lose their capability to clean toxic waste from our blood. The end stage is considered to be irreversible and cannot be treated with medicines. The kidneys cannot function and need to be either replaced with that of a donor or by dialysis. Dialysis is a procedure in which the toxins of the blood are cleaned with the help of machines.
Renal transplant is of the most common types of transfer done in our country. If both the kidneys of a person have failed, then they need only one kidney as a donor. This donor can be a live person or someone who has died recently and should have neither any disease of the kidneys, nor a communicable disease. The live donor can be a relative or a non-relative of the diseased person. After the healthy kidney is operated from the healthy person’s body, it can be preserved for the next two days.
Patients Eligible for Kidney Transfer: The doctors ...
... perform various tests to ensure that the donor’s blood and tissue match with that of the recipient’s. The candidates are checked if they are eligible for a transplant. Those who suffer from end stage renal disease are considered to be ideal for this treatment. Their heart-lung function should be good and should not have any other life threatening disease. They should be willing to cooperate with their doctors who will perform the procedure. They should also be ready to visit their doctors after the operation is over. This is because renal transplant patients need to monitored by their doctors in the long run.
Patients not Eligible for Kidney Transfer: Doctor usually do not recommend patients who have any other medical conditions like TB or other kind of infections; disease of heart, lung or liver; history of cancer; other life threatening diseases. Those who smoke or consume alcohol or drugs may not be advised to have a transplant.
Risks involved: Ask your doctor about the risks involved for the entire procedure. Although it may vary from one patient to another, some of the risks include reactions to medications, problem in breathing due to anesthesia, bleeding, blood clots, and prone to infection. Make sure that you screened properly by the transplant team and check the credentials of the hospital your doctor refers to for kidney transplant.
One such health care center where you can get Renal Transplant is the Noble Hospital. They have a team of doctors who are well qualified and experienced for the job. The nephrologists let you know if you are eligible for getting a kidney transfer. They check if the blood and tissues of the donor matches with the receiver. The entire procedure is done as per the rules and regulations, and the patients usually have better quality of life after the transplant.
