“Zakat” is one of the noblest of the five pillars of Islam. It is all about charity; giving to the poor and the needy and to maintain the peace and harmony of society. It is believed that it was Allah who had given the wealth and prosperity to the fortunate Muslims and now it was their duty to look into the well being and prosperity of their fellow community members and others as well. Zakat has been made compulsory with the objective of bringing equality in the society and every Muslim who is financial independent and stable should perform zakah, not just out of compulsion but solely out of the goodness of heart.

zakat is also a way of thanking Allah for all that he has given. There are some who are only interested in making money and they do this by extortion and only for personal gains. That is not how one should show gratitude. One should remember that he only reason why they have the wealth is because the Allah has ordained it to be so and the least he can do is to show gratitude by keeping the ...
... other children of Allah happy.

Zakat can be performed in any way, either by giving money, items or other commodities of necessity, livestock and of course food. Providing the basic amenities of life to someone for whom even survival is a challenge is one of the purest and kindest deeds in the eyes of God. There is no better way to serve him as Allah resides in every human and to serve mankind is to serve Allah himself.

So, if you are a good hearted Muslim, do your bit and perform Zakat. Contribute in your own way to the greater cause and make the world a better place to live in.
