You have learned how to write a book and have written it. You have learned how to publish your book, and you have done just that. But selling your finished product is merely the start of and long and illustrious money making journey – but it should not just stop there!

Word of mouth is currently one of the foremost ways of generating sales and trumps conventional ‘paid for’ advertising hands down. Suffice to say, if a friend, family member or author, who, at most has made an impression on you, or, at the very least, vaguely seems to know what they are banging on about makes a recommendation to purchase a product or service, you are infinitely more likely to pursue it over and above some cheesy, slick and sensual advertisement on television.

People have become wary and a little cynical towards the more overt forms of advertising which are involuntarily rammed down our throats day by day. ...
... A magazine or television advertisement funded by the very company who is launching it is bound to be skewed.

If a product or service was recommended by a third party in the context of a conversation or cunningly imbedded in a relating article or text without the notion of any intended financial gain for the messenger, it is more likely to bulldoze the cynicism and make the recommendation more credible in the process. Let’s take a look at an example:

Julia’s has just finished her eBook on dating. She can easily bolt on several additional income streams to her book, in order to maximise profit potential:

Extra income stream 1: Referrals to a ‘preferred’ dating website
Extra income stream 2: Book/DVD recommendation
Extra income stream 3: Creation of a members only club with a monthly subscription charge.

So it certainly makes sense to ride this wave as the chances are very high that you will inadvertently be recommending some sort of third party product and service in your eBook. Regardless of what it is, your recommendation will indefinitely have more impact than a generic advertisement and the chances are even more infinite that there will be a vendor somewhere on planet earth who is prepared to reward referrals – but why would you want to give them that honour for free ?

You are not a government welfare programme! Simply seek out the vendors who do give commissions and sign up to their affiliate programme so that you can benefit from yet more streams of residual income after the sale of your eBook.

There is no reason why you cannot think of any ‘related’ products that cannot be shoehorned in to your work of art, even if you do genuinely think that what you have provided is the divine answer and nothing else can possibly compare to it!
