Strangely though it may seem, in a PGA Tour playoff last year, the gloves were off. The first extra hole in a shoot out in that duel thrilled the fans but led to sweaty palms for the lucrative golf gloves for men industry.
The player was no other than Lucas Hendley Glover, the American professional golfer, well-known for winning the 2009 U.S. Open.
According to him, he never wore any glove and can’t hit a shot with one.
This is unusual because golfers have been covering their non dominant hands to improve their grips for more than a century now. Unfortunately, it is difficult to provide proof for this because there is hardly any photographic evidence of golfers wearing gloves at that period.
The first golf gloves for men were probably fingerless. An 1898 catalog of a London departmental store displays some gloves with open tops and others with holes for knuckles.
It was during 1950s and 1960s that golf saw transition from fingerless gloves to full gloves. Yet, golf champions had contrasting styles.
Ben Hogan, one of the five players ever to win the grand slam, never wore a glove. In ...
... contrast, Jack Nicklaus, who won a record 18 major championships, says, “he cannot recall a time when he never wore a glove.”
Today, selling golf gloves for men is a big business. An industry leader that sold a million gloves in 1979 is selling close to 10 million now.
The glove itself has evolved significantly. The latest models have enhanced the fit and look. Many of them are made of microfiber material that has near leather feel.
Choosing a golf glove
A glove can make all the difference between a good grip and bad one when golfers hit a shot. Sadly, many golfers do not give much thought to the golf gloves when they buy one.
Here are a few useful tips on choosing a golf glove:
Decide on the material. Although leather is more expensive, it is the best choice, as it is comfortable to wear and durable.
Make sure the glove fits well. Gloves come in numerous sizes. If you have wider hands, then cadet golf glove may fit better.
Check out by putting on the glove right away.
Buy one that fits your needs. Some have detachable discs, so that you can mark the golf ball. Then, there are half gloves that expose the fingers. Some find these comfortable to feel the shot.
A key reason to wear a glove is grip, whether it is golf gloves for men or women.

PureBold is a company that offers excellent golf gloves for men. If you have smaller fingers and wider palms, PureBold also offers many a cadet golf glove. Visit the site and know more about them.
