No matter what vehicle you are driving, people want to have the confidence in their car to effectively protect them if they are in an accident. No one wants to get injured in a crash. This is why vehicle safety is becoming more and more important to consumers and community advocate groups. People want to be protected and have confidence in their vehicles. You can never predict what will happen on Ontario roadways.

Manufacturers have received the message and are responding with a wide variety of car safety features on all makes and models. Only a few decades ago cars lacked many of the features that are now sought after by consumers such as:

Air Bags
Head injury protective foam
Antilock brakes
Traction control
Electronic stability control
Crumple zones

How to get a top safety rating

With the focus on safety, naturally manufactures want to have the safest vehicle on the road. This is not only great for consumers, but it is also an effective way to market and sell vehicles. However, comparing vehicle safety needs to be done fair. You cannot compare ...
... a sports car to an SUV. It just doesn’t work. Therefore, vehicle safety is measured within each class of cars and achieving the highest safety rating in your class is a large accomplishment.
Vehicle safety is measured in the following car classes:

Pick ups
SUVs (large, midsized luxury, midsize, small)
Minivans
Large luxury cars
Large family cars
Midsize luxury cars
Midsize cars
Small cars
Mini cars

To get a top safety rating, regardless of what class they are in, vehicles are put though a battery of tests. These tests involve being put through a series of crash tests that measure the response to impact to the front, side, and rear of the vehicle. Each year, more and more vehicles are achieving top safety rating, which is a result of the increased focus on safety.
