Getting the best deal at car sales depends on your ability to the traps laid by the salesman. They live because of their ability to make you believe anything they want to. Your best defence against a scheming salesman is keeping your emotions from dripping all over and trying to understand the meaning of every single word spoken by them. So what are the common tripping points?
Salesmen don’t get enough payment!
That is a long standing trick that is so good that people fall for it over and over again. They will tell you that if you pay less than what they are asking they will have nothing in their pockets. They will also tell you more than just that to try and convince you into paying more than what the car is worth.

The best way to deal with this, or any untruthful statement is by keeping your reactions to yourself. It is not uncommon for customers to remark in an unsavoury way to such lies, you should know that such scepticism makes the salesman aggressive and he will do more than sale you snake oil. Therefore, stick to your end of the argument and let the tirade of bad payment end before reinforcing ...
... what you think about the price.

2. There is no Reason for Staying If You Don’t See What You Want
A salesman will try to keep you looking at the new car, whether or not you like it, while he goes about laying out all the best things about the car. There are inherent faults in human behaviour and the salesman will exploit everyone of it in to meet his targets. Be on your guard and do not hesitate to way away from something you do not want to buy. We assume that you have made your researches extensive before walking into a car sale.

3. Don’t Pay for Anything You Don’t Understand
Salesmen are good at creating catchy words at the drop of a hat. They will charge for promotion, floor charges, sales charges or anything that does not sound right. Just say a clear ‘no’ to anything that sounds fishy. The only things that merit extra are: license, registration and taxes. If the salesman fails to explain, ask for the manager and seek an explanation.

4. Keep Your Emotions at Bay
Someone who makes his living by selling things has an exceptional eye for emotions and will use it against the buyer the moment they see a chink in your armour. Keep a poker face and remember what you want, there will be car sales as long as there are cars to sell.
