Massage therapy is the leading service requested in spas and one of the most used forms of alternative/complementary medicine in the world. There are an estimated 250 modalities in massage, bodywork and somatic therapies. A good massage therapist can charge anywhere in between $40 to $100 per hour from their clients. With so many massage therapy schools mushrooming up today, there is a certain shift in how the massage education is imparted today then it was imparted earlier. Massage therapy Vancouver has certainly taken much more professional approach today.

Today massage education is very diverse and different. From the earliest techniques of massage to the modern techniques of massage developed by the scientific inputs, massage education has changed a lot.

Main part of the course contains information about different forms of massage. There is practical and theoretical training of simple massage procedures as part of daily regimen. Therapists learn the techniques of massage one step at a time, until they are able to give a full massage. These courses are useful for those who want to know how to perform massage ...
... as a form of health and fitness treatment.

Some of the topics covered today in massage education are ---

• Anatomy & basic physiology. Anatomy is the study of the structures of body parts and their relationships to one another. Physiology is the study of the functions of the body. This is the first step which a student must learn to become a successful massage therapist.

Students are taught about the various body parts like digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system, muscles etc.

• Advantages of massage. Students are made to understand the benefits of a good massage. They understand what the healing effects of a massage are and what to do & what not to do in massage.

• Pain Management. Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with pain. Students are taught how to relieve the pain of a patient with the help of massage and the basic science involved to get rid of the pain.

• Contraindications of a massage. Any pain or condition that one is unsure of is a massage contraindication. Students are taught that a massage contraindication is a treatment or procedure that is inadvisable. Contraindications are either absolute or relative.

Massage education teaches a student that he/she should trust their instincts. You are touching somebody's body so take great care. If something doesn't feel or seem right to you, then it probably isn't. This means that under some situations massage is absolutely not advised – SHOULDN'T BE DONE AT ALL, while other situations it may be OK to massage with modification, moderation, special restrictions, approval from a doctor, or otherwise subject to judgment or discretion. Massage therapy Vancouver has changed a lot with time and hopefully for the good. Taking a proper massage education is advisable for a therapist as it can save a lot of pain and time for both the patient and the therapist.
