Insulation is something that is all around us. However, because it is mostly hidden under the floors, in the walls or in the roof, it is something we are generally not aware of. Yet, it is one of the most important building materials there is.

Why Insulation Is Important

Without proper insulation, our homes, offices and other workplaces would be too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Slowly but surely the quality of insulation has improved. Today, far more installation is used and as a result, our buildings are far more environmentally friendly than they once were. Governments across the globe have tweaked their building regulations to encourage builders to use more and more effective insulation in modern buildings.

In addition, many homeowners and business owners have retrofitted their buildings with insulation. In most cases, they have done so in an effort to save money. The fact that energy costs have increased so steeply in the past five or six years has led many people to invest in insulating their home. Each insulating material has its own properties and some materials are more effective than others. In addition, some materials are not designed for retrofitting and are therefore not suitable for many insulation jobs.

There are plenty of places to get advice about fitting insulation. The internet is a great source of information. Your local builder will also advise you about retrofitting installation to your home or office. However, one of the best sources of information is the manufacturers of insulating materials. As well as giving general advice, they will give detailed technical advice should you need it.
