Most patients suffering from hip problems are aware of the fact that it is impossible to get back to work immediately after a hip replacement surgery. Any doctor associated with a recognized center for orthopedic excellence will suggest such a patient to stay at home for few months, for avoiding any unwanted circumstances.
Unfortunately, for some people it may not be possible to stay at home for a long period. This is especially true for people who work and may have dependent family members. While most companies do allow employees to take leave for serious surgeries, such as hip replacement, it may not be possible to extend this leave in all circumstances.
Here are few suggestions for people who are planning to go back to work, post hip replacement surgery.
• If you have decided to go back to work once a few months have passed post-surgery, get in touch with your surgeon or a specialist first. Remember that only a qualified person associated with a center for orthopedic excellence will be able to offer good suggestions in this ...
... regard. In general, avoid going back to work before 6-12 weeks have passed. Remember that 6-12 weeks are required for your body to heal completely.
• Once your doctor permits you to go back to work, start preparing yourself mentally. Do not over-stress yourself, in any situation. Opt for regular breaks, so that your body does not feel stressed.
• At work, be careful about your posture. Chairs in most offices possess the capability to recline, swivel, and rock. While these chairs are perfect for most people, they may not be ideal for people who have undergone hip replacement surgery. This is because after a surgery, leg and back muscles become sensitive. Using normal chairs, therefore, may place extra strain on your body. For best results, opt for a stiff chair that will allow you to enjoy greater control over your body.
• Sticking to good eating habits after a surgery is important. In an office environment this may be challenging. It may be a good idea to bring your lunch and carry healthy snacks. This will reduce the temptation to eat unhealthy food.
You may think that a surgery may affect your career; however, this is not correct. Remember that it is always possible to balance work and recovery from hip replacement, provided you follow certain guidelines.
For best results, it may be a good idea to talk to your doctor, before returning to work. This way, you can learn about important suggestions to be followed, while at work and enjoy the route to recovery from a hip replacement.
